Please note that this range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level and competencies.

Position Summary:
Our Genetic Counseling Assistant (GCA) will report directly to the Lead GCA and will work closely with other members of the GCA team. In addition, the GCA will look to ensure outstanding provider interactions and patient care by partnering with Genetic Counselors and Genetic Counselor Clinical Leadership. Some of your responsibilities and essential duties may include:
- Prepare genetic counseling summary reports for appointments with our genetic counseling team
- Ensure appropriate documents needed for consultations are collected prior to the consultation
- Contact patients prior to appointments to collect personal and/or family history information; this will include drawing 3 generation pedigrees through pedigree drawing software
- Contact patients to disclose negative test results where applicable, in support of Genetic Counselors
- Maintain clear and effective communication to support unique patient needs via telephone, chat, or email
- Ensure prioritization and satisfactory service of each individual patient throughout their entire journey
- Facilitate relationships between the patient, clinical providers and outside medical referrals when needed
- Act as a liaison between GM clients/ customers/ partners on behalf of the patient to support patient journey and escalating of cases and triaging to other departments when appropriate
- Prepare patient records, and assist with patient letters and action plans
- Interact with all members of the care team to coordinate care and effectively problem solve to implement appropriate plan of care
- Assist with optimum lab selection, support lab order entry and work with outside labs for sample collection
- Keeps abreast of insurance related issues and performs pre-authorizations.
- Provide result-tracking and routing of results to care providers
- Additional responsibilities as they relate to the position and needs of the department
- Triage non-patient inquiries to appropriate departments
Hours:
- 40 hours per week with flexibility for some weekend coverage (approx. 4-5 hours, 1 weekend per month)
- Time during the week will be adjusted so that the total does not exceed 40 hours per week.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in genetics, biology, psychology, or related fields required and 0-3 years of experience in genetics counseling or other clinical work is preferred.
- Prior experience in healthcare, customer service or patient relations is a plus, but not required
- Understanding of the specifications of a HIPAA compliant environment to be able to deliver quality care as a customer advocate is preferable
- Strong organizational skills in order to facilitate information, meet set expectations and execute accurate completion of all required procedures.
- Quick learner who is comfortable working in a dynamic role and open to continuous growth and evolution of responsibilities
- As a remote position, candidate will be required to communicate regularly on instant messaging platforms and video calls. Proficiency with Slack, Zoom, or Google Meets a plus.
- Excellent communication (verbal, written and listening) skills and able to collaboratively engage with all customers, patients, and teammates
- Familiarity with Zendesk, or other customer service helpdesk software a plus, but not required
- Familiarity with pedigree drawing (by hand or with programs) a plus, but not required
